GUANGZHOU, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's National Games awarded 29 gold medals Wednesday. 16-year-old Chen Yujie added a 200m title to her Monday's women's 100m victory, while local favorite Liu Jingyang claimed the women's 100m hurdles crown.
Athletics remained the day's most prolific competition, producing nine gold medals, including the highly anticipated women's 100m hurdles, where Liu won in 12.81 seconds, followed by Wu Yanni with her season-best 12.85, while 2022 Asian Games champion Lin Yuwei took bronze.
"Winning feels exciting and unbelievable," said Liu, who set a personal best. "My goal before the race was just to reach the podium, but I didn't expect to take the gold. Winning in my hometown is just incredible."
Just a day after having won the women's 100m, Chen, returned to the track to claim the 200m title in 23.02 seconds, edging out Hubei's Zhu Junying and Cai Yanting of Jiangsu.
"I'd give my performance at the National Games 150 points. This competition is just the beginning of my career," Chen said after the race.
In the men's 110m hurdles, Xu Zhuoyi of Shanghai won gold in a personal-best 13.12 seconds, while Jiangsu's Liu Junxian also set a personal best of 13.14 to take silver.
Discus world champion Feng Bin, representing Shandong, won the women's discus throw with a 65.46m effort on her fourth attempt.
Wet, windy and cold conditions challenged riders in the BMX racing events, but Lin Haochao of Shandong successfully defended his men's sprint title in 32.928 seconds, while Guangdong's Liao Wanyi dominated the women's sprint, taking gold in 34.788 seconds.
In tennis, Beijing's Shang Juncheng beat Guangxi's Zhou Yi 6-4, 6-3 in the men's singles semifinal and will face Zhejiang's Wu Yibing for the title on Thursday. In the women's singles, 31-year-old veteran Zhu Lin of Anhui upset top-seeded Wang Xinyu of Guangdong 6-3, 6-2 to reach her first National Games final, where she will play Gao Xinyu for gold.
Canoeing also delivered a medal-filled day, with Zhejiang taking gold in the men's and women's 500m double kayak events and the men's 1,000m single kayak, while Guizhou's Shuai Changwen successfully defended the women's 200m single kayak title in 45.410 seconds.
At Macao's Galaxy Arena, Shandong and Hebei traded wins in the women's team table tennis final, each side leveling the score before Shandong narrowly claimed the gold with a 3-2 overall victory.
Powerhouse Jiangsu, which had reached the final of the past three tournaments, claimed the women's volleyball title with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Shandong.
